Training -Â A costly distraction or a valuable asset?
Let’s face it, in today’s climate, one of the first areas to be considered in a cost-saving exercise is the support function. This area is more often than not considered to be a non-contributory cost by the ‘Men in Black’ who control the purse strings. Let’s examine that premise.  OK, you run a well oiled machine. The production facility is churning out widgets and the order book is full. Training is considered a well deserved perk for the workforce.   Then comes the hard times. The order book is becoming like a Swiss Cheese and times are getting harder. Can’t afford training any more... Or can you NOT afford to train?   Suppose you are a Food Company. You are obliged to ensure that ALL Food Handlers are trained to a minimum standard. | Manufacturing plants cannot afford to have an accident where the root cause was discovered to be the lack of training offered to the individual. |
Remember, we live and work in a highly litigious arena!  Weigh up the costs of a Training package against the costs, both tangible and intangible, of a significant incident in your Business.  Can you afford NOT to Train your staff?  |
