Training -  A costly distraction or a valuable asset?

Let’s face it, in today’s climate, one of the first areas to be considered in a cost-saving exercise is the support function. This area is more often than not considered to be a non-contributory cost by the ‘Men in Black’ who control the purse strings.

Let’s examine that premise.

OK, you run a well oiled machine. The production facility is churning out widgets and the order book is full. Training is considered a well deserved perk for the workforce.

Then comes the hard times. The order book is becoming like a Swiss Cheese and times are getting harder. Can’t afford training any more... Or can you NOT afford to train?

Are you taking a risk?

Suppose you are a Food Company. You are obliged to ensure that ALL Food Handlers are trained to a minimum standard.

Manufacturing plants cannot afford to have an accident where the root cause was discovered to be the lack of training offered to the individual.

Remember, we live and work in a highly litigious arena!

Weigh up the costs of a Training package against the costs, both tangible and intangible, of a significant incident in your Business.
